During Ramadan, people usually do many “good deeds,” like reading Quran every day, praying more often than any other month of the year or helping poor people. But most importantly, they detach themselves from worldly desires to develop their spirituality.”

Fasting during Ramadan can help improve your immunity system and protect your body from diseases.

Ramadan is also an excellent opportunity to earn forgiveness from Allah for all of your sins. Make the most out of this blessed month! Ramadan is an opportunity for Muslims to get closer to Allah through good deeds such as reading Quran every day, praying more than usual, and helping the poor.

The Virtue of Ramadan:

1) Fasting

Fasting purifies from sin. In Ramadan, when one fasts from dawn until sunset, they abstain from food, drink, and sexual relations with their spouse. A fasting person leaves all evil deeds and thoughts. Furthermore, when a fasting individual avoids lying, backbiting, swearing, and arguing – this will show their gratitude to Allah (Exalted be He) even if they are afflicted during the day by some discomfort or illness of hunger due to extreme heat or cold; or due to a disease that prevents them from fasting.

2) Zakah (Charity)

Muslims are encouraged to be generous, especially during Ramadan when their good deeds are multiplied because they are drawing near to Allah (Exalted be He). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Give charity because there will come a time on people when a person will go with his alms from place to place but will not find anyone to accept it.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî 1882]

3) Recitation of the Qur’an

By reciting even one verse in this month, the reward is more significant than reciting the entire Qur’an in another month. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward.” It was said, “What if he reads a whole surah?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That is even better.” Sahîh al-Bukhârî 604

4) I’tikaf

Allah has commanded the believers to spend some time in seclusion and contemplation in His company in the masjid. This is known as ‘itikaf. Allah says: And devote yourself to the prayer and remembrance of Allah. Indeed, that is sufficient for you. And whoever volunteers more – it is better for him. But that you should persevere is better for you, and Allah (Glorified be He) is the One who can provide help. 2:45-46

5) ‘Eid Al-Fitr

‘Eid al-Fitr is a happy occasion at the end of Ramadan during which Muslims wear their best clothes and celebrate with friends and family by visiting one another and exchanging gifts. This tradition comes from our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He used to offer two zakaah of Eid Salaah with six takbeers. Sahîh al-Bukhârî 1112 & 1113
