If you are familiar with the computer world, you will know that identifying your computer’s motherboard will not be complicated at all. The problem comes with ignorance, which leads us to think that getting to the motherboard will be a really complicated task. That is why at Info computer we have decided to lend you a hand and show you how you can get to your computer’s motherboard in a comfortable, simple way and without having to open the PC. You have different options, and we are going to tell you all about them. Pay attention and take note.
Many people are unaware of it, but you can easily access your computer’s motherboard simply by using a computer program. It is HWINFO32, a completely free program that you simply have to download and install on your computer to start using it. In general, the program is ready to work without the need to carry out any type of configuration, but if necessary, you can configure the program to your liking through the “settings” tab (options).

In order to access the board, you will only have to click on “run” and the analysis will automatically begin, which will not take more than 10 seconds. Once the analysis is finished, you will see how you can access a large flow of information, but if you are only interested in information related to the motherboard, you must access it through the tab located in the “Motherboard” side menu.
From there you will be able to know the model of the motherboard as well as many other aspects related to the elements that are connected to the board: microprocessor, BIOS, internal and external connectors, etc. Information that will be very useful not only to increase your knowledge but also to improve the performance of your PC.
Check the BIOS
Another option, perhaps a little more complicated but just as effective, is through checking the BIOS ID of your computer. To do this you must access the system information, a function that is available for all versions of Windows, and which you can access through the “run” window, which you can reach through the Start menu or with an access quickly, by typing the key combination “Windows + R”. Once there, type “msinfo32” and hit the Enter key.
You will be shown extensive information, and you need to press the “BIOS Version/Date” tab to access the BIOS ID. From there you will be shown the manufacturer and the board model, through “BaseBoard Manufacturer” and “BaseBoard Model”. Fast and easy.
Access the plate yourself
If you don’t trust the above methods, you can also access the board yourself. It will be the most reliable method, but also the most expensive and the one that will take the longest. Of course, this method will only work for desktop computers, since on a laptop it will be much more complicated.
If you are still determined, the first thing you will have to do is turn off your computer and disconnect it from the power. Open the PC by removing the screws and remove the case by sliding it up or to the side depending on each model. For your safety and that of the equipment, we recommend that you place it on a flat and secure surface, placing it in such a way that it is easy for you to reach the rear.
Once open, look for the motherboard and look at the label that will be attached to it. What you are interested in is knowing the model of the plate, which is usually the largest number, normally made up of a code made up of between 5 and 7 characters that can be numbers or letters. In the newer models, the manufacturer is usually also included, but if it is not, simply by putting the model number in Google you can easily find out the company in charge of manufacturing the board.
You may find that the plate number is covered by a cable or component and that it does not let you access it. In that case, you will need to disconnect those cables or components very carefully and make sure you connect them correctly afterward.
SOUND CARD AND NETWORK CARDS
Here we will not stop too much because they are the chips in charge of processing the multimedia sound of the computer and the network connection.
EXPANSION SLOTS
Although all the components of the motherboard are important, the expansion slots are transcendental because they are responsible for installing, among other things, the graphics, network and sound card.
They are called PCI-Express or PCI E- and each of these slots has a speed of 250 MB/s.
SATA CONNECTORS
This is the standard communication component in PCs for connecting mechanical hard drives and also SSDs.
Among its main functions, it allows devices to be hot plugged and, unlike its predecessor (IDE), it has smaller and more manageable buses.
M.2 CONNECTOR
The innovative M.2 connector is intended for the installation of only the storage units to avoid overloading the expansion slots.
If you bet on this last method, we recommend that you take advantage of the opening of the box to clean the inside of the equipment, since it will never hurt and will help it work much better.
